Hopefully. For the last couple of weeks I’ve continued to have discussions regarding the upcoming presidential election and I’ve discovered that many democrats are discouraged, believing that Trump will ultimately be the winner in November. I believe most of these feels come from an internal voice that does not want to be disappointed if the results aren’t favorable. It’s definitely tempting to give in & “accept” it now. However, there is absolutely no possible way Donald J. Trump wins in November.
The polls (yes polls) have Joe Biden winning by double digits, the latest estimate has Biden up +15 points. AND I KNOW WHAT YOU’RE THINKING: Hillary Clinton was leading the polls in the 2016 election and polls are useless. This might be the number one argument I hear from my Republican co-workers and friends. However, I did not expect this argument to be used by Democrats. If we look at historical data for the past 21 elections dating back to 1936 (Roosevelt vs Landon) the polls predicts the winner 16/21 times. To be completely dismissive about the poll numbers is idiotic. I digress, maybe democrats dismissing the poll numbers is a positive idea. No longer are democrats going to stay home and be faithful to the polling numbers, instead they will go out in droves to their voting booths. In addition, Clinton won the popular vote in 2016. It wasn’t a landslide victory for Donald Trump. While Republicans may shout “bUt tHe el3ToraL c0Ll3Ge”, we understand that it’s not a perfect system.
In 2016 Trump was a new cult of personality running for president that many Americans found intriguing. He was touted as being for the people by not backing down, “saying what he means”, not being political, he became a false idol of being a tough leader. Starting Twitter wars in 2016 with celebrities like with Rosie O’Donald was amusing. Americans found it comical because he had no other responsibilities to the country. People believed his Twitter habits would die off because of the immense pressure and stress that are inherited by being president. Obviously, those habits never ceased. Twitter wars with Bubba Wallace and many others are no longer comical. Instead they highlight the absolute lack of care for real issues with the country. [still editing]
